About The Band

The Grocery Story is the current musical adventure of former Subdudes bandmates John Magnie and Steve Amedee.

John Magnie on keys and sometimes the accordion, grew up in Denver, moved to New Orleans in 1974, met Steve Amedee and the other Subdudes there and they all moved to Fort Collins in 1987.  Like John, Marty Rein is also a Colorado kid; He has always been the local music scene’s bass player of choice.

Steve was born and raised in small town Louisiana. His son Jess Amedee was born in Fort Collins and was playing the drums by age 3. He and his dad are one big grooving machine when they perform on their custom double drum set.

Mike Finders is a superb singer and guitar slinger, originally from Iowa, who is mostly known for being the main songwriter behind the excellent original bluegrass band, the Finders/Youngberg band (or FY5), and more recently with his rocking electric blues quartet SpiderCat. The charismatic Mike Finders, from Iowa, is a major contributor to the Fort Collins music scene. He plays lead guitar for the 8-piece band and in case you don't know him, Mike's the guy standing front and center in the brown suit and tapered hat.

Rhonda Merrick just landed in Fort Collins in March 2024 and is a member of a famous musical family in New Orleans. Funnily enough, she actually grew up in the town right next to Steve’s hometown in Louisiana, but the two didn't meet until they were both in Colorado! She wrote the rhythmic 'Plaquemines Parish' and hearing it's down home message is an experience that will leave the listener just feeling good all over.

Peaches Embry has family roots in New Orleans also but grew up in Gary, Indiana. To paraphrase the Black Keys "When she's rolling... she rolls deep." Her song "Too Hurt To Cry" reaches deep into the bones of the soul. It's as aspirational as it is devastating yet somehow restorative.

Rounding off the three lead Singer/Songwriters is Erik Lunde from Wisconsin. Erik brings a frenetic energy to the laid back Blues-rock vibe of the southern singer-songwriters in the group. It makes for a differentiation in perspective on how the songs are delivered. It's a satisfying experience to see and hear the diverse sounds of The Grocery Story.

The heartfelt musical experience featuring original songs that range from hard blues to rocking revival, and all points in between is made possible by songs that John, Peaches, Rhonda and Erik write and sing. This collective of musicians is unique in that all three lead singers are established solo artists. That freedom to move from acoustic-rock to big band jamming is the magic sauce that holds this whole thing together so beautifully. Everyone is here because it's a fantastic band!  This 'heartfelt experience' has been captured on the band‘s new album: SITUATION ON AISLE #3, recorded in their hometown of Fort Collins, Colorado.
